Carlos Ahenkorah Resigns From His Office



The deputy minister of Trade and Industry, Hon. Carlos Ahenkorah has resigned on Friday, July 3,2020 after he took actions that are contrary to the Covid-19 safety protocols. 


In a statement from the Presidency, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo acknowledged accepting the Tema West MP's registration from office with immediate effect. 


Mr. Ahenkorah admitted on Asempa FM on Thursday, that he visited the voter registration centres with full knowledge of his Covid-19 status, and that he had already tested positive. The Minister told the host that he sees nothing wrong with his actions. 


Defending his conduct, Mr. Ahenkorah claimed that he adhered to all the social distancing and health protocols, implying he did not in any way,put anyone at risk. 


He said he felt he needed to show up in a public place with his Covid-19 status because, he didn't want his constituents to speculate on his absence at the start of the voter registration exercise. 

Meanwhile ,President Akufo-Addo is "admonishing all appointees to bear in mind that they are to provide leadership, at all times,for adherence to the protocols that have been established to help the nation defeat Covid-19". 

In accepting the registration, the president recognises that Mr. Ahenkorah has acted honorably in the circumstances by resigning his office, and whishes him well.
