[LIST] Major Points From The 15th Update On Covid-19

The President of Ghana,Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo was set to give his 15th update on Coronavirus to the nation on Sunday, August 16,2020. 

Below are points listed from the latest update by the President. 

1. Ghanaians did their civic duty by going out to register for the new voters ID,having found that the process was orderly, peaceful, and safe. 

2. As at July 24,the number of active cases stood at 3,307. Three weeks later,August 15, the number of active cases declined to 1,847. 

3. Currently, there are no recorded Covid-19 cases in the North East,Savannah, Upper East and Upper West Regions. 

4. Greater Accra,Ashanti, Central,Eastern, and Western Regions continue to be the Regions with the highest number of active cases. 

5. A total number of 40,567 persons have recovered from the virus so far,which shows a significant improvement from 89.5% to 91.5%. 

6. A survey by the Ghana Health Service at selected locations in Accra ,in August, showed that 82% of persons possesses face masks,and 44.3% of them use them correctly. 

7. Government has instructed the Minister of Gender,Children and Social Protection to ensure that 584,000 final JHS students, and 146,000 staff in both public and private schools are given a hot meal a day, from August 24 to September 18. 

8. Continuing students from UCC,UHAS,Technical Universities, and some other colleges are to return to school on August 24 to finish the academic year. 

9. Minister of Education continue to engage with the GES and all relevant stakeholders to decide on the reopening of our pre-tertiary schools. 

10. The Ministry of Aviation,Ghana Civil Aviation Authority, and the Ghana Airports Co.Ltd have been working, with the Ministry of health to ascertain the readiness to reopen the Airports, hopefully by September 1. 

11. Every passenger that arrives in the country will be tested to avoid covid-19 spread. 

12. Borders,by air,land and sea remain closes until further notice. 

13. Special dispensation will be given to Ghanaians stranded abroad for their evacuation back to Ghana. 

14. Beaches,pubs,cinemas,and night clubs are still to remain closed. 

15. Limit on number of persons to attend conferences, workshops and award events,has now been lifted,subject to the maintenance of social distancing amongst participants. 

The President drew our attention on the fact that at all times,the opening up of the country continues to put an obligation and responsibility on each one of us to remain vigilant, respect and enhance hygiene ,mask wearing,and social distancing protocols.

They are proving to be effective, so he further entreated Ghanaians to employ them wholeheartedly.
