The President of Ghana,Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo,was as part of the new normal set to give Ghanaians the 18th update on the measures taken against the spread of the deadly Coronavirus pandemic.
Below are some major points from the President's speech.
MAJOR POINTS IN THE 18TH UPDATES
- A month ago,there were 502 active cases,45,258 recoveries, and 297 deaths.
- As of Friday,October 16, active cases had declined to 398,with 46,664 recoveries which shows and increase to 98.5% recovery rate,with 310 sudden deaths.
- Some countries have been experiencing the second wace of Coronavirus, where in some instances new infections and hospitalizations are,sadly,in thousands per day.
- After 6 weeks of reopening Kotoka International Airport(ie.from Sept 1),a total of 30,564 passengers have been tested,from which 92 have tested positive.
- Government insist on the three (3) day PCR negative test period before boarding the flight.
- Government has expanded of Covid-19 testing facilities from 2 to 16,which include those of private providers; and have also improved the availability of PPEs for the health workers.
- Ghana is the beneficiary of 100 bed Infectious Disease Centre,located at the Ga East Municipal Hospital, with plans in the offing to replicate it in Kumasi,Takoradi and Tamale.
- The academic year for new and continuing University students will commence from January 2021.
- Football will return in two weeks. Private Burial still,with a maximum of 100 persons are being performed.
- Limit on number of people to attend conferences, workshops and award events, has been lifted, subject to the strict adherence of COVID-19 protocols.
The President continued by urging us all to continue to comply with the strict hygiene, mask wearing and social distancing protocols that have been part of our daily routines.
"Zero active cases must be the goal,and U have no doubt that,together, and with the help of God, this too shall pass,for the battle is Lord's"
