National Labour Commission Orders UTAG To Call Off Strike

The National Labour Commission (NLC), in a statement, has ordered the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) to call off its strike immediately.

In a statement issued on Friday,January 14,2020 , the Commission explained that the Association’s industrial action was illegal and did not conform to the laid down procedures.

On Monday, UTAG declared that it has laid down its tools due to government’s failure to address the worrying condition of service of lecturers.

According to the Association, government has breached the timelines agreed for resolution. UTAG is, therefore, withdrawing teaching and related activities until further notice.

However, highlighting the outcome of an emergency meeting between government and UTAG, the Commission’s Executive Secretary, Ofosu Asamoah, said that the issue over which UTAG embarked upon strike has been settled.
